The Big Dark

It is that time of year when the beauty of the autumn gives way to what we call here the big dark. The time changes and the darkness descends early giving us a stark reminder that winter is on the way. The holidays provide a bit of a distraction but when the festivities end and the decorations all put away, the darkness is still hanging around. But I have always told myself that winters are mild here and last only about a month. That come February the spring flowers pop through the ground and that spring is on the way and days are getting longer. I suppose the light here never bothered me much when I was younger. After all I spent over twenty years working in the darkroom, making photographic prints. I guess I got used to the darkness.
