Sentimental Snapshot

Update on my Instagram contact that was interested in a print. Turns out they were only interested in a memento and not art. They were locked into getting a 12×12” image to match their current lineup of other 12×12 images. Plus, they wanted to have it printed there with the other images so they would match. So, they want to know if I would sell them a digital file and send along a digital signature. I told them I only sell digital files on a commercial basis and its use is restricted. I also said I would never sign a print I hadn’t seen.  He said he understood and thanked me for my time. Prior to that, I had been thinking about how to deal with this. Things like would a crop an image for that sake of a paycheck? Would I sigh that version? I also had come the realization that they were looking for a post card really, a memento of their life in Seattle. My image showed the place where they had met (they have 2 kids now). My image reflected the view from their home across the street. They had been searching for some time to find a suitable image to say…this is where we met. I didn’t want to damper their feelings of nostalgia. What might you do? My solution was simple and required little effort on my part. The Instagram they first saw was too loo res to get a satisfactory print. But the image is on my website and while not the highest res, it is way better than IG and should be suitable for their needs. I am not sure they knew it was on my site but I him where to find it and go and grab it and enjoy. He was pleased and thankful. What may be art to you and me is just a sentimental snapshot to others. I am good with that
