From 2007 to 2011 I spent late August to early September in the very hot and muggy city of Rome. My mission was to teach photography to design students from the University of Washington. I tried to instill in them my love for the medium and encouraged them to explore the rich cultural landscape of Italy, and make pictures that lived forever. I like to think I had an impact on the way they saw the world and helped them gain a better appreciation and understanding of the power of the photographic image. The last ten of my Roman students graduate this week and head out into the world. I hope I taught them well, I am sure I learned a few things from them, that’s for sure. It was a good run, I will miss Rome.
